| From Mexico to Hollywood, Pulaski to Hanks, this square has a special place in people's hearts. After the 1846 capture of Monterey, Mexico, Monterey Square was erected. It is located on Historic Bull street in downtown Savannah, but it is also bordered by Taylor Street, Wayne Street, and Gordon Street. Not only does it commemorate the capture, but it includes a monument to Count Casimir Pulaski, a Polish American general. Pulaski was killed in the 1779 battle of Savannah. Monterey Square has been used many times to film movies such as Forest Gump, starring Tom Hanks. It is also the site of the Mercer House, made famous by the book and movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
