MATH TRAIL PROJECTS

One of the best things about the Math Trail project is that it can be done in a variety of ways. It can be a high-tech challenge, created on web pages using digital photographs; or it can be a few simple, hand-illustrated math problems. But no matter how you design the project, the Math Trail is an excellent way of evaluating your students’ skills
If you watch my Math Trail videos, you’ll see that I ask my students to make booklets that contain the math problems they have made up, narratives that give background information on the math they found in the community, photographs and a map showing their particular “trail”. Whether these books are created by hand or on a computer, it is important that you have clear standards about what you expect from your students, and that your students understand what those expectations are.
