TASIS Middle School Algebra Class Problems
for the National Math Trail!
An
Introduction
TASIS, the American School in England, is an
independent school with an American curriculum for students from
Pre-Kindergarten through twelfth grade. The school, founded by Mary Crist
Fleming, opened its campus in 1976 in Thorpe, Surrey. The buildings and campus
all hold great historical value.
One of the most interesting sites on the campus is a 400 year old walled
garden. It had been used as a kitchen garden, supplying fruits and vegetables
for the adjacent manor. While the manor remained intact and is now part of our
campus, the garden became desolate and remained that way until this year. Ms.
MacDonald, our computer science teacher, is leading a project to restore the
garden to its original splendor. All of our math problems relate to the garden
and the results of some of our calculations were actually used to assist in its
design and in the ordering of supplies. Click here
to read an interview with Ms. Macdonald. We sincerely hope you enjoy our
problems! Thank You.
