    Each vertical layer that you see here is a triangular shape made by stacking bricks in the pattern 1,3,5,7, etc.   The first layer has one brick in it, the second one has 4, then next one has 9, and so on.
1)      For any given layer, find the equation that shows how the number of total bricks in the layer is related to the number of rows.
2)      For the entire shape, find the equation that relates the total number of bricks in a shape of this pattern to the total number of layers of triangles.
