| The Historic Roundhouse Complex buildings in downtown Savannah were built back in the1800's. They are no longer used for the railroad, but are now a museum. They have many interesting features such as a railroad turntable. This machine allowed locomotives to change directions or to go into certain stalls at the Roundhouse Complex. Most turntables were built during the days of the steam engine. Few turntables still exist today. | ![]() |

| The Historic Roundhouse Complex has many buildings such as the machine shop, the blacksmith shop, and the tender, or repair, shop. In 1853, they built a 125 foot smokestack to collect smoke from the boiler room and the blacksmith shop. The Historic Roundhouse Complex also has the oldest portable steam engine in the country, built in 1914. | ||||||||||
