Quaboag
Corporation is located on School St. in North Brookfield, Massachusetts. This is the
largest business in our town and many citizens work there. This company supplies
manufacturers of shoes and boots with outer rubber soles. The making of soles begins with
raw materials (rubber) which are mixed and developed into Quaboags own compounds.
About 140,000 pairs of soles are made each week! Roughly 230 employees work at Quaboag.
These employees work a 3-shift operation. Sometimes there is a need to work more than the
8-hour shift to meet customer needs and deadlines.
This company also has a production cycle. This cycle starts by the lab making the
compound. Then that is mixed in the mixing department in a huge machine. Next it is taken
to the preform department where it is made into small pieces ready to press. Then the
Molding Department presses the pieces into molds using 53 presses. Last the Trimming area
trims the excess rubber from the soles. Finally, this gets inspected and packed. The
product is ready for shipping. The kinds of companies Quaboag Corporation sell soles to
include: Neos, Winebrenner, Red Wing, Wolverine, Timberline, Bass, and Colorado. The
company used to mix compounds for other companies (like Gerber) to make their own products
(baby bottle nipples). Quaboag Corporation was once called Quaboag Rubber Company. We
chose this place because Coreys father works there. We also thought it would be
interesting to pick this topic.
