Possibilities for a New UB Video

The students of the Upward Bound Program at FVCC want to make a new recruiting video to show to incoming freshmen.  They want the time frame of the video to have some sort of relationship to the actual summer program.  They decided on a 1/20 ratio.  They want each aspect of the summer program to be portrayed in the video.

Once they figure out how long the video will have to be in comparison to the length of the summer program they are going to figure out how much time was spent on each different activity and show that much time of it in the video using the 1/20 ratio.

Here’s what they know:

Total # hours in the summer program:  391.5 hrs

# of hours spent in class:   115.25 hrs

# of hours spent on trips:   204 hrs

# of hours spent on rec/comm. service/meals/miscellaneous:  72.25 hrs

Now we put those times in proportions to figure out how much time each would take up in the video.

? = length of time in video

 1/20 =?/391.5                  1/20=?/204

1/20=?/72.5                  1/20=?/115.25

ANSWERS:

1/20=20/391.5      20 min.  for summer program

1/20=10/204         10 min. for trips.

1/20=6/115.25        6 min. for classes.

1/20=4/72.25          4 min. for miscellaneous.
