The Carnegie Library

The Carnegie library used to be located in the Masonic Temple.  Later, the Carnegie Library was moved to the building where it is now located.  The Carnegie Library was built between the years 1834 and 1837.  The Carnegie Library was built in honor of Charles Eugene Frohman who labored to preserve knowledge of its history for the people of Sandusky and Erie County.  The Carnegie Library opened on July 4,1903 and was a gift from Andrew Carnegie who paid 50,000 dollars for the building and its equipment, and it will take 3,000 dollars a year to maintain it.  In July 2001 there will be an extension added to the Carnegie Library.

Math Problem

If there was a building, which started off as 23,396 sq.ft and the people who owned the building, wanted to add on 39,186 sq.ft, which would then make the new building 62,582 sq.ft. What would be the percent increase of the buildings extension?

% Increase=amount of change      167 % increase   39,186
                   Original amount                                    23,396
