Trail Station # 1
Check that you have
everything you need for this station:
grid paper - a
ruler - markers- a pencil
MATH TRAIL
# 1:
At
this station you will be working with LINES OF SYMMETRY. A line of symmetry is made when a line can be drawn through an object, like a
letter of the alphabet, and the same shape or design is on both sides of the
line. An object can have more that one
line of symmetry. A circle, for
example, has an unlimited number of lines of symmetry.
YOUR TASK:
Write
the words “DOUBLE CHURCHES SCHOOL” on
your grid paper. The letters are
located on the brick wall outside of the school. It is important to copy them exactly as they appear on the
building. With a marker and a ruler
construct all the lines of symmetry that you can find in each of the
letters. Be careful.....some letters of
the alphabet do not have any lines of symmetry. Can you find any like that here?
With another marker underline all the letters that do not contain any
lines of symmetry.
