CSN
The CSN (Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional) is the largest integrated steel complex in Latin America with a total area of 3,76 Km2. In 1946, CSN inaugurated large-scale domestic steel production, nowadays it produces 5 million tons a year of untempered steel.
The “President Vargas Steel Mill”, in Volta Redonda, in the Southern part of the State of Rio de Janeiro, produces flat steel, galvanized sheets and tin mill products for the packaging and distribution of automotive, domestic appliance, construction, machinery, equipment and pipe industries among others.
Privatized in 1993, CSN today is a highly competitive company for its excellent technical and administrative staff; for its self-sufficiency in iron and fluxes (limestone and dolomite); for the integration of its production activities, and for the investments made over the past few years in new equipment, energy, and logistics.
The (CSN) Companhia Sinderúrgca Nacional registered a profit of R$ 231,1 million in the first nine months of the year 2000. A R$ 53,1 million profit was registered during the same period in 1999.
